The KNVB, The Royal Dutch Football Association, chose a number of Reimagine Football innovations which have been implemented in their KNVB Oranje App, aimed at fans of the Dutch national football teams. Various international leading football organizations, including the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB), Johan Cruijff ArenA, City Football Group, UEFA, and AFC Ajax, have teamed up in order to tackle current challenges in the context of sustainability.
Innovative stadia require innovative security solutions
De KNVB, Ajax en de Johan Cruijff ArenA starten samen met UEFA en City Football Group een wereldwijde zoektocht naar innovaties die het voetbal helpen te verduurzamen. De Europese voetbalorganisaties dagen bedrijven uit om slimme oplossingen aan te dragen waarmee ze de CO2-voetafdruk rondom voetbalwedstrijden kunnen verkleinen. TNO and the Johan Cruijff ArenA will be further expanding and intensifying their existing innovation partnership. In the future, the organisations also want to investigate, test and optimise specific and feasible stadium-related innovations in fields such as sustainability, digitalisation and health. The partnership is part of the ArenA’s innovation programme, where the stadium functions as a Living Lab.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of the Johan Cruijff ArenA (former Amsterdam ArenA). The ArenA has welcomed over 40 million visitors in 25 years’ time. Since 2018, the stadium is proudly referred to as the Johan Cruijff ArenA. As soon as it was opened in 1996, the ArenA became an iconic location, one of the most multi-functional stadiums in the world at that time and the first European stadium with a retracting roof.
